Women’s Self-Defense Class by Deputies

The Craighead County Sheriff’s Department in Jonesboro, Arkansas initiated its first self-defense class for women, teaching both mental and physical sides of self protection. The participants learned to properly use physical techniques such as punching and kicking moreover, to even identify a predator during the eight hours of class. Randy Sharp is a training officer and said the session is not only meant to be fun and entertaining, but also informative and life-changing.

“That’s why I became a police officer, to help people and to protect people who can’t defend themselves,” said Deputy Sharp. “Well, everyone needs to be able to defend themselves to a point because there’s not always a police officer there.” Fifteen women participated, but there was a waiting list of at least 50 more.
