Wounded Warrior Hiring and Support Conference Underway

The second day of the 4th annual Wounded Warrior Hiring and Support Conference is underway in Raleigh, North Carolina. The free two-day conference sees employers and wounded warriors coming together to “match their needs for employment,” a Navy release states.

The first day focused on the needs of employers as they attended sessions which shared best practices and methods of recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining wounded warriors and veterans.

“Businesses must be good people pickers to succeed,” said Vice Adm. David Dunaway, commander, Naval Air Systems Command. “When you get into the pool of veterans 90 percent of the picking is already done for you because the military picks good people and makes them better.”

As the Navy release points out, North Carolina has one of the largest wounded warrior and veteran populations in the country. The Raleigh/Durham area in particular is home to “multiple warrior transition units and veteran-focused organizations,” the Navy said.

Today, the conference will include the Hiring Heroes Career Fair, which includes over 60 federal agencies and private sector employers presenting job opportunities to wounded warriors, veterans and spouses, according to the Navy. Click here for a list of all employers in attendance.
