The new model comes in 9mm and features a five-inch competition barrel. It utilizes a black nitride finish and a 1:16-inch slow twist for enhanced accuracy with lighter-weight match bullets. The lengthened slide features forward cocking serrations. Meanwhile, the serrated top features a black nitride finish to reduce glare.

A ported slide reduces weight and comes drilled and tapped under the cover plate for mounting red dot optics. A fully adjustable rear sight pairs with a fiber-optic front sight for rapid target acquisition. The grip frame and grip modules both feature an aggressive texturing for enhanced control.

Ruger first introduced the American Pistol in 2016. Ruger developed and tested the gun to exceed military standards for accuracy and reliability in all environmental conditions. The pistol endured torture testing through 20,000 rounds of +P ammo.
