Magpul heard the market’s call for a drum-style magazine, and it delivered. Recently, alongside some other goodies like the Magpul Pro 700 Chassis, I was able to get my hands on one briefly while attending the 2019 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Idaho. The Magpul PMAG D-50 EV9 didn’t disappoint. Our friends at Tactical have video of the new 50-round CZ Scorpion drum magazine.
Magpul PMAG D-50 EV9 Details
Magpul put a lot into its latest magazine. It has the same DNA as the legendary PMAG D-50 LR/SR 7.62×51 magazine. It’s also very easy to disassemble. Magpul chose to utilize a stainless-steel spring for corrosion resistance. According to Magpul’s Chris McRae, “They will never take a set, and will run just about forever.”
The PMAG D-50 EV9 has a ratcheting loading lever, as well as a “round remaining” window on the back. Magpul also integrated a bolt hold open feature into the magazine tower.
CZ Scorpion fans are going to love the new D-50 EV9. It’s also sure to be a hit with those that own a Palmetto State Armory AK-V9, as it uses Scorpion-pattern magazines. Shooters who don’t want to utilize the larger capacity D-50 EV9—for whatever reason—can also opt for the PMAG D-35 EV9. The 35-rounder is more of a “stick” magazine, with a curve; it holds 35 rounds of 9mm.
Magpul also has another variant on its radar in the near future. It’s a 50-round drum mag that is compatible with Glock 9mm mag wells. It shares similar features with the PMAG D-50 EV9.
PMAG D-50 EV9 Testing
We ran the new magazine extensively at the aforementioned Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. When I say “we,” I mean myself and about two dozen other contributors who were on hand for the event. It ran flawlessly for myself, and everyone else I spoke to agreed that it was a welcomed addition to the Magpul family; no surprise there.
Having so many choices was never so much fun, and now you can have 50 rounds of 9mm at the ready. For those of you in states that “limit your freedom,” fear not—there’s a simple workaround: Move to a different state. Sorry to get your hopes up, but it’s worth the move in this instance. MSRP is $119.95. For more information, please visit Magpul.com.
