We got news of a really cool project sure to appeal to military fans and collectors. The Anderson Manufacturing Dissipator recreates a classic Vietnam-era carbine that saw action during the conflict. Available exclusively through Classic Firearms, the Dissipator brings a solid rendition of the 16-inch, cutdown rifle working off a rifle-length gas system.

The Dissipator derives from the U.S. military’s Vietnam effort to build a lighter, more compact weapon system for the jungle fighting of the time. Without completely pivoting away from the M6 Service Rifle, the Dissipator chopped four inches from the standard 20-inch barrel. But it maintained the rifle-length gas system and full sight radius of the original. In civilian circles, this Dissipator concept lives on today in countless build styles.

“The A4 Dissipator gives a classic rifle a slight refresh, maintaining a true to original rifle gas system while adding a flat top receiver to mount modern optics,” said Truman Brough, Product Engineer, Anderson Manufacturing. “The rifle gas system on a 16″ barrel offers an extremely smooth recoil impulse and long sight radius, while maintaining a short overall length. This rifle answers the question: ‘What would have happened if the original chopped M16 made it all the way to the A4 generation?'”

Dissipator Build Features

Now Anderson’s AM-15 Dissipator comes with a 16-inch government, front sight-based (FSB) Anderson barrel. Chambered in 5.56, it utilizes a 1:8 twist rate and comes with an A2 Flash Hider. For easier transfer, Anderson pins the FSB, while the adjustable sight doubles as the gas block. A triangle end cap secures a 12-inch, polymer, A2-style handguard with internal heat shield. An A2 barrel nut secures the system.

The AM-15 upper receiver mates with an AM-15 Multi-Cal lower receiver, both forged from 7075 T6 aluminum. A Magpul MBUS Rear Flip-Up Sight rides the flat-top Picatinny rail on the upper receiver. Inside, an Anderson M16 Profile Bolt Carrier Group and Standard Charging Handle equip the rifle. The fire control group comprises of an Anderson Lower Parts Kit, while an A2 Rifle Buttstock and A2 Rifle Buffer, spring and tube complete the package.
