Back in December, PTR Industries introduced its Archon Firearms Gen 2 (below). The model offered a lower bore axis to deliver less felt recoil and promote faster follow-up shots. However, the company now further improves the Gen 2 model by adding an optic cut for further enhanced accuracy.

The PTR Archon Firearms Gen 2 Gets an Optic Cut

Featuring a steel monocoque frame, the Archon series features a low bore axis and patented breech locking system. The AF-Speedlock system eliminates the need for a tilting barrel, allowing the slide to drop lower into the grip. As a result, shooters experience a significantly reduced muzzle rise, resulting in less felt recoil and faster target re-acquisition.

Likewise, the innovative grip system features interchangeable grip textures, allowing shooters to dial in the overall feel and retention level. In addition, the modular design allows the pistol to be tailored to the shooter’s grip as well as changing from a full size to a compact or sub-compact.

In addition to the unique features of the Gen 2 Type B is the addition of an optic cut. Specifically, the model is now available in your choice of RMR or RMS footprints for compatibility with most popular optic models. However, for those who prefer iron sights, the Gen 2 Type B still maintains the serrated rear and fiber optic front sights, with Glock standard dovetail.

PTR Industries introduces its Archon Firearms line of 9mm pistols to the U.S. market. The line includes two models that utilize a lower bore axis and patented breech locking system. As a result, the pistols deliver less felt recoil and help shooters get back on target faster.

The PTR Archon Firearms Line

Building on a steel monocoque frame the Archon series is available in Gen 1 or Gen 2 models. However, the company states that more models will follow. Featuring a 15+1 capacity, both models weigh a lightweight 1.85-pounds unloaded.

Utilizing a unique, patented breech locking system called AF-Speedlock eliminates the need for a tilting barrel. For this reason, the barrel remains straight, allowing the entire slide to be dropped lower into the frame. As a result, this, along with the lower bore axis, significantly reduces muzzle rise, allowing for less felt recoil and faster target re-acquisition.

Housed within the slide is a 4.3-inch 6-groove barrel with a right-hand 1:10 twist, chambered in 9mm. The slide also features aggressive forward and rear cocking serrations for easier manipulation, wet or dry. Likewise, a top indent at the forward serrations provides for easier press checking. Additionally, riding atop the slide are Glock standard dovetail rear serrated and front fiber optic sights.

Where the two models differ is in the grip. The Gen 1 features aggressively waffle pattern texture for enhanced grip under any condition. Likewise, a prominent dovetail helps prevent potential slide bite. In addition, a high trigger guard cut allows for a higher grip to help further reduce recoil.

However, the Gen 2 features a new grip system with interchangeable grip textures and a unique modular design. As a result, shooters can easily modify their pistol between full-size, compact, and sub-compact configurations for easy concealed carry.

The Gen 1 ships with two 15-round magazines, while the Gen 2 ships with one 15-round magazine, one 18-round magazine, 3 back straps, and 2 grip extenders.
