Sig Sauer unveiled its new P320 MOD (Max Off Duty) at the 2025 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous event. I was thrilled to get a peek at the new gun, fire it, and learn about SIG’s Off-Duty discount program for military, law enforcement and first responders.
The P320 MOD is the flagship of Sig’s Off-Duty program that’s designed to give military, law enforcement and first responders the opportunity to buy some truly special SIG products at incredible prices. It’s Sig Sauer’s way of thanking these selfless communities who sacrifice so much to protect our way of life.

Sig Sauer explained how the P320 MOD is the ultimate crossover pistol. It includes premium competition features combined with the usual Sig reliability and performance of its duty style guns. The P320 MOD carries heavy input from professional shooter Max Michel. Michel is a former US Army Action Pistol Team member and coach. His extensive resume also includes 20 national champion titles, and he happens to be a much sought-after law enforcement trainer.
Sig added, “Most of the people who will want this new gun already carry the P320 on duty and want a similar and familiar platform for off-duty and competition/recreational shooting.”
Details Of Sig Sauer P320 MOD
If you’re not familiar with the Sig Sauer P320, it is a striker-fired, polymer-framed pistol that uses a double-stack 9mm magazine. The P320 MOD differs in that it uses a 3.9-inch barrel and a full-length slide with a pair of ports. The area in front of the barrel’s muzzle becomes a very effective expansion chamber and the two ports vent gas to push the muzzle down. P320 MODs ship with a Sig X-Series grip module that has a full-length dust cover and accessory rail.

Adding to the P320 MOD’s custom gun feel is its flat blade trigger. It offers the shooter a greater degree of control, and after a modest pre-travel presents a wall for a crisp break. In my sample’s case it only took 2.75 pounds of pressure to drop the striker and reset was firm. It is one of the better striker triggers I have fired.
Out of the box, the P320 MOD comes with a Springer Precision extended magazine release, a removable magwell funnel and grip weight to help dampen felt recoil.

My test sample shipped with a Max Michel-branded Hogue Wrapter adhesive grip. I chose not to use this accessory as I’d be returning the gun to the factory after testing. That being said, the pistol I shot at Rendezvous was equipped with the Wrapter grip. Its aggressive texture provides a very secure firing grip. If I carried this gun concealed, I’d be concerned that clothing might hang up over the texturing–just something to think about.
XRAY3 Day/Night sights come standard on the P320 MOD. This gun is also optics-ready, and Sig Sauer thoughtfully equipped my test sample with a Romeo-X Pro red-dot. Keep in mind it isn’t included in the P320 MOD package.
Out On The Range

Fire season shut down my usual shooting spot on BLM land in southern Arizona. My colleague, Robert Jordan, graciously invited me to join him at his range in Phoenix. There, we had access to a 25-yard bay for 4 hours and gave the P320 MOD a good wringing-out.
I started by shooting the gun for accuracy and rested the pistol’s dust cover on a Ransom Rest Multi Cal Steady rest while adding pressure to the flat faced trigger. Sig’s Romeo-X Pro optic possesses a very sharp and well-defined dot that was easy to center over my targets. For testing, I brought along a good assortment of defense and range ammunition.

Nosler’s Suppressor Ready 147-grain JHP’s printed the best 5-shot group. It measured just over an inch at 25-yards. This is a very mild load, producing only 243-foot pounds of energy and recoil was very mild. Federal’s Syntech 150-grain Action Pistol rounds also produced a very respectable group. While the two heaviest projectile loads produced the best accuracy, I’m not ready to say this pistol has a preference for heavier bullets. I fired 3 groups with each load with the best group listed in the chart. The aggregate group size for the 7 loads tested was only 1.49”-again, these were shot at 25-yards.
HOP Munitions’ 124-grain JHPs produced very good accuracy while providing the most energy of any of the rounds tested. I also shot the P320 MOD with HOP’s 115-grain Polycoated Round Nose bullets, and they too produced very good accuracy.
Pushing For Speed

After accuracy testing, we set up four USPSA targets. I placed two relatively close at 5 and 7 yards, and the other pair at 15 and 20. Shooting order was near-to-far, near to far with the distant targets requiring the need to slow down, in order to score solid hits.
What I found is that Sig’s slide-integrated compensator was very effective in mitigating muzzle rise. The vented gas helped push the muzzle back down on target and I was able to fire some very fast doubletaps on the closer targets. Thanks to the red-dot and crisp light trigger I connected quickly and accurately on the farther targets.
Parting Shots
While most will find the new Sig Sauer P320 MOD far too big for off-duty carry, it is a fun gun to shoot. There’s no doubt it has a massive appeal for recreational shooting. Its accuracy doesn’t hurt either. My test gun never stuttered once, despite the wide variety of bullet weights and bullet nose profiles I shot. Finally, for what it includes, the Sig Sauer P320 MOD is priced at an astonishingly low $899.

It’s easy to determine if you qualify for the Sig Sauer Off-Duty program. If you’re currently serving active or reserve duty in any military branch, or are a member of the National Guard, you qualify. If you’ve ever served in any branch of the US military, were honorably discharged (and possess a DD214), you also qualify.
Sworn law enforcement officers or corrections officers (including probation and parole officers) also qualify. If you’ve retired from any of these positions and have “retired” credentials, you’re golden too. SIG-Sauer also extends eligibility to state-licensed security professionals. Court officers and state/county/city coroners also qualify.
Last but not least, full-time EMTs, firefighters (including volunteer firefighters) and paramedics also qualify for Sig’s Off-Duty program.
