The Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2023. That sounds harmless enough. In fact, you would have to be some kind of animal not to want something like that passed. Right? Justice, science, who wouldn’t want to fund those? Probably anyone who actually reads past the title. But that’s the point, isn’t it? Hide your gun control measures in a spending bill with an innocuous title.
Spending Bill in Congress Has No Shortage of Gun Control
You really don’t need a copy of the Democrat playbook to figure it out. They have been running the same tired play for years. Give the bill a title that only people who hate American citizens would vote against and hide a bunch of pork in it.
But not just any old pork, the kind of pork that no one wants but them. That’s why it’s hidden. Because it cannot withstand the litmus test of the democratic process. So, they hide it and then have Speaker Nancy Pelosi decry what wretched monsters Republicans are for opposing it. But they never debate the bill itself in the public square.
Well, they’re at it again. This time, it is the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2023. And it’s a doozy, full of anti-Second Amendment garbage that would never pass true public scrutiny. Except in the most anti-gun echo chambers. In truth, it’s practically just a gun bill in disguise.
According to Gun Owners of America, the bill is a gun control wish list that includes the following items:
- Massive ATF Budget Increase to Facilitate Biden’s Pistol Ban
- Gun Registration Funding
- Gun Confiscation Law Funding
- Financial Benefits for Families of Deceased ATF Agents Killed or Injured on the Job while Enforcing Gun Control
- Ammunition Background Check Study
- Gun Control Research, Unbound by the Dickey Amendment
- Anti-gun Community Violence Interventions
- “Domestic Violence Firearms Lethality Reduction Initiative”
- “Violent Anti-Government Ideology” Research
- Gun Control Earmarks
Gun Control Wish List
Unlike any bipartisan gun control package (an affront to our rights), this one is a Democrat wish list. It is full of all the garbage they couldn’t get into the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
A particularly egregious item is the ammunition background check study. The plan with this is to treat the purchase of ammunition the same as when you purchase a firearm. The study will seek ways to implement a background check system for the purchase of ammunition in the very near future.
Likewise, the ATF will be receiving a substantial budget increase to enhance gun registries and enforce red flag laws. Not to mention the facilitation of Biden’s pistol ban. So, get back to work; the ATF needs more money to take your firearms. They also need more money in the event they are injured or killed in the process of stealing your firearms.
By the way, terrorist, the bill also adds more budget to research “Violent Anti-Government Ideology.” Like the kind President Joe Biden called out in his last speech. Or the kind the FBI and DHS have clearly identified in recently released documents. Spoiler alert: It’s you.
I will admit, they are clever, though. The bill does seemingly include provisions for addressing gun violence and domestic abuse. Now, if you call out the gun control items in the bill, they can point to those items and ask why you are against them.
Of course, there is nothing about how they plan to get guns out of the hands of criminals. Or the fact that these proposals remove firearms from the hands of women, who need them most in a domestic violence situation. Their only focus is removing guns from the hands of law-abiding gun owners. Even though a gun in a good guy’s hands saves lives.
What’s Not in the Bill
The items that are not in the bill are almost as telling as what is in the bill. You will notice there is nothing about gun safety education. Remember when that was taught in schools, and there were no school shootings?
Speaking of schools, there is very little in there to address school safety and the prevention of mass shootings. I wonder how much of this money could be used to harden schools. I bet it would go a long way towards safeguarding our children.
Also, while the bill includes funds for “White Supremacist Domestic Radicalization Research,” Antifa isn’t mentioned one time. Nor is Black Lives Matter. Or any violent left-wing extremist organization. Apparently, terrorizing an entire country for over a year doesn’t qualify as domestic terrorism.
There doesn’t seem to be any mention of funds to dominantly black communities ravaged by the Antifa/BLM riots either.
GOA Takes a Stand
Of course, if this does slip through both the House and the Senate, there will be Supreme Court challenges. But that takes time, and a lot of damage can be done while we wait. Specifically in the hands of the ATF, who, according to GOA:
“You will be forced to give the ATF your name, Social Security number, address, phone number, email, payment information, FINGERPRINTS, as well as the make, model, and serial number of your firearm – and provide photographic evidence of your compliance.”
As I am sure you have noticed, this is just another Trojan Horse federal gun grab. The GOA is having none of it and recently sent a letter to Congress condemning gun control in this spending bill, item by item. In the letter, the organization details explicit and specific infringements of the Bill of Rights.
But this fight cannot be on GOA alone, we have to let our representatives know that we do not support this back door gun grab. For this reason, GOA suggests calling your representative and telling them you oppose any and all infringement on the Second Amendment.
And while we’re at it, let’s beat the rush and get these people out of the government in November. We cannot survive two more years of this kind of rule.
