Hunting has been part of human existence since we were first able to make sharp sticks. As time has gone by, those sharp sticks have evolved into incredibly accurate and effective weapons. For some, the advancement in rifle technology has taken some of the challenge out of hunting, so shooters have turned to handguns as the weapon of choice. The next challenge was to make a handgun capable of taking game in the deer size range. While many rounds have tried to own this space, the 10mm seems to be the perfect balance of power and recoil. It is with all of this in mind that the hunting minds at Kimber developed the 10mm Super Jägare.
Super Jägare Details
As its name suggests, the Super Jägare is a 1911-style pistol built for hunting. The gun comes stock with a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro reflex sight. Kimber committed completely to this reflex sight and did not include any other traditional sights on the gun. The gun also has a 6-inch barrel, which gives us an extra inch to gain some extra velocity from our chosen ammunition. The barrel and slide are ported as well to help reduce muzzle rise.

Upon detailed inspection, the gun is all Kimber. The frame and slide are stainless steel to help it stand up to harsh weather. The company also uses a black diamond-like carbon (DLC) finish on the slide, which adds to its corrosion resistance. The frame is covered in Kimber’s popular KimPro II gray finish, which looks great.
In The Field
After shooting the gun, I immediately wanted to try it in the field. The Super Jägare has all of the traditional Kimber trademarks, including a smooth trigger, a round-heel frame and a high-undercut triggerguard, which makes makes it comfortable to shoot and carry. Coming in at a beefy 42 ounces unloaded, the Super Jägare manages the recoil of the powerful 10mm very well. The porting is very helpful, too.
“The Super Jägare is a well-balanced 10mm powerhouse that points quickly on target and has lightning-fast recovery times due to the extremely effective barrel porting,” said Winslow Potter, Kimber’s director of product marketing. “The stepped porting of the slide not only allows the gases to escape from the barrel, but it also efficiently lightens the slide to reduce felt recoil and promote faster lock times of the longer slide.”
In summary, the gun is a serious shooter. On the range, I was able to shoot quarter-sized groups at pace off-hand. I am certain that it would have been one ragged hole had I used a sandbag. If you are looking for a hunting handgun to cover a spectrum of game, the Kimber Super Jägare needs to be at the top of your list!
