Arex, a Slovenia-based gun maker whose products are imported into the United States by Fime Group out of Las Vegas, just released a compact version of its Rex Zero 1 pistol.
Chambered in 9mm, the compact variant of the Rex Zero 1 features a 3.85-inch barrel — as opposed to a 4.3-inch barrel on the standard version — an overall height of 5.1 inches (versus a height of 5.7 inches on the standard) and weighs 25.1 oz, down from 29 oz. on the standard. The frame width, 1.1 inches, is the same on the compact and standard models.
Meanwhile, the compact Rex Zero 1 has a magazine capacity of 15 rounds, while the standard version has a 17-round capacity. For those of you in magazine restricted states, Arex has announced that a new 10-round mag is also now available for the standard.
The Rex Zero 1 features an ambidextrous magazine release and safety lever. The slide stop/decocker lever are integrated, Arex says. Pushing up on the lever is the slide stop, press down releases the slide, press down again and it’ll decock the hammer. Field stripping can be done without pulling the trigger. Shooters can run this in DA/SA or SA only. DA trigger pull is 13 pounds, while SA trigger pull is five pounds. The trigger resets with just .16″ of travel.
The Rex Zero 1 is built out of T7075-T6 Aluminum with full length rails; full length dust cover; integrated picatinny rail and a one piece cold hammer forged barrel made from a solid bar stock. The parts are nitrocarburized to protect against corrosion and wear. This gun was designed for hard use, with an expected 30,000 rounds of service life. It’s passed NATO and Slovenian military tests, the company says.
