We’ve warned you in the past of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden’s propensity toward banning AR-15-style rifles—the most popular type of rifle in the country used by many law-abiding Americans for sport shooting, competition, hunting and home defense. In fact, Biden was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee when Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapon ban” passed back in the 1990s. The ban lasted 10 years without delivering any measurable effect on violent crime. However, the new Biden plan against the AR-15 goes so much further.
The Biden Plan to Tax the AR-15 Out of Existence
Fast forward to today and Biden has a new plan targeting the AR-15. His plan includes an attempt to make semi-auto rifles too expensive for the average American to own. How? By regulating currently owned rifles through the National Firearms Act of 1964, thereby levying a heavy tax on the commonly owned rifles.
Biden’s gun plan changes the way the government would regulate AR-15s, wrote AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News. More to the point, it infringes upon ownership. The article links out to a Giffords Law Center memorandum, explaining the effect:
Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes. As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.
The Big Lie About Assault Rifles
What Biden won’t tell you is that AR-15-style rifles are also rarely used in crimes. Even the FBI says criminals use rifles of any kind in less than 5 percent of shootings in the U.S. Meanwhile, semi-auto rifles measure at an even smaller subset of that percentage.
Biden also won’t tell you that government research into the Clinton gun ban of the 1990s showed it had no significant effect on violent crime. So Congress let the law “sunset” 10 years after its initial passage.
Biden’s NFA scheme comes with a substantial price tag for current AR-15 owners. A $200 NFA tax on the approximately 18 million AR-15s owned by Americans amounts to $3.6 billion in extra taxes. Again, those aren’t just new AR-15s; this applies to currently owned AR-15s. This constitutes private citizens already deemed law-abiding through background checks. So, unlike a so-called “sin tax” that levies additional taxes on questionable activities like smoking and drinking alcohol, Biden’s plan would create extra fees and red tape for Americans who are simply practicing a Constitutional right.
Harris Equally Anti-Gun
Unbelievably, Biden’s running mate, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California, has even more nefarious plans for owners of semi-automatic rifles. Her anti-gun activism goes back decades to her seven-year stint as San Francisco’s district attorney. Harris has openly embraced gun confiscation through what she called “mandatory buyback” programs; it’s a nonsensical term since the government can’t “buy back” something it never owned. In fact, such “buybacks” amount to forced confiscation of private property with a fee paid to the person who had the firearm confiscated.
But it’s not just Biden and Harris who have their eyes on firearms owned and safely used by millions of peaceful Americans. The 2020 Democrat Party platform says, “Democrats will ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. We will incentivize states to enact licensing requirements for owning firearms and ‘red flag’ laws that allow courts to temporarily remove guns from the possession of those who are a danger to themselves or others.”
