Here’s one lever-action rifle fans are sure to love. Big Horn Armory just announced the release of its newest lever-action rifle. Dubbed the SpikeDriver Tactical, it harnesses the big .500 S&W cartridge for massive stopping power afield.

While lever-action rifles typically fall in the genre of hunting guns, this build transcends that singular classification. Sure, 200-grain slugs and larger will drop plenty of big-game. But this handy carbine doubles as a capable defender as well.

The rifle features an American Black Walnut stock and forend. It comes fitted with integral front and rear sling swivel mounts. The pistol grip buttstock wears a 1-inch Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad to tame this powerful beast. A “tank”-style brake fits the muzzle. Multiple coats of synthetic satin finish protect the wood furniture.

The furniture comes glass-bedded to the metal parts, ensuring accuracy and durability. The standard Skinner rear sight mates with a fiber-optic front sight for fast target acquisition. A large, curved lever operates the action, providing clearance for a gloved hand. Big Horn manufactures the receivers and steel parts from 17-4PH stainless steel. The 16-inch barrel utilizes 416 stainless steel.

Inspired by the best of the Models 1886 and 1892 lever-action platforms, the SpikeDriver Tactical showcases modern manufacturing processes. It ultimately increases .500 S&W velocities 300-600 fps over revolvers.
