Second Amendment supporter. Survivalist. Patriot. Those are just a few words to describe Burt Gummer. If you’re unfamiliar, Gummer is a character from “Tremors,” a 1990 horror/comedy film with cult following. Gummer is a survivalist with a serious arsenal of guns. So we thought it’d be fun to revisit the character in a “flashback Friday” of sorts.

Burt Gummer and His ‘Rec Room’

We love exploring guns in movies. A recent debate got us talking about the best gun rooms in film history. A more recent entry that quickly comes to mind is Winston’s gun vault from “John Wick 3”; it is pure #PewPew bliss. Another entry if you want to go back further is the underground weapons bunker from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

However, there’s one gun room that made all of our lists, and it was at the top of most of them. Gummer’s gun room is an overwhelming favorite. There is a pivotal scene — if that’s what you want to call it — when Burt (played by Michael Gross) along with wife Heather (played by Reba McEntire) get trapped in their gun room with a Graboid (monster) trying to break in to kill them. Other characters tell them to run and get out of there before it’s too late. But, like true survivalists, Burt and Heather hunker down and grab the guns.

What ensues is about three minutes of non-stop shooting. Guns used in the scene are as follows: Steyr SSG 69 PII rifle, Winchester Model 70 rifle, Winchester 1200 Defender shotgun, Heckler & Koch HK91A2 rifle, Colt AR-15A2 Sporter II rifle, Remington 870 shotgun, SIG P226 pistol, Ruger Redhawk revolver, and a flare gun. But there’s one more entry that is the proverbial cherry on top. Lastly, Burt grabs a William Moore & Co. 8-gauge shotgun. Also referred to as an “elephant gun,” Burt puts two well-placed slugs into the Graboid to end the standoff.
