Creedmoor Sports Inverted Rifle Target: How Low Can You Go?

There is nothing quite like the sound of a round hitting steel at long range, it is very satisfying. But what if the point is not to get the distinctive “ping” report? That is the goal of the Inverted Know Your Limits rifle target from Creedmoor Sports. So, how low can you go?

The Creedmoor Sports Inverted Know Your Limits (KYL) Rifle Target

The company’s first steel target for precision rifle shooting, the KYL is constructed of laser cut 3/8-inch AR500 steel. As a result, the plate can handle both rimfire and centerfire handgun and rifle cartridges (.30 caliber and below). For example, it is suitable for cartridges such as .22 LR, 9x19mm, 45 ACP, .223 Remington, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5mm Creedmoor, .308, and similar.

Additionally, the plate is powder-coated white, providing a longer-lasting finish. Each plate ships with two coated S-Hooks for hanging the target, either vertically or horizontally. However, the plate can also be mounted with a chain, rubber straps, or other similar methods.

Where the Inverted KYL target takes a twist is in its utilization. Instead of shooting for the satisfying “ping” of steel, you are trying to avoid it. The plate features seven holes that gradually get smaller, from 2 inches down to .5-inch. And the goal is to progressively decrease the hole size as you shoot without touching the steel. If you get the “ping” report, you missed.

Creedmoor recommends placing the target at 25 yards for pistol and 100 yards for rifle. Not only will this provide a proper challenge, but it will also ensure maximum safety.

Editor’s Note

Obviously, you could just get paper targets and draw different size circles on it for a similar challenge. However, from 100 yards, the instant report of the round hitting steel provides feedback that a spotting scope might struggle with. Not to mention, range time is always more fun when you’re hanging steel. Even when the object is not to hit it.
