Amid all the rumor, speculation and anticipation, the new Glock Gen5 pistols are finally here.

These Glock 17 and Glock 19 Gen5 pistols come with more than 20 design changes from their Gen4 brethren.

Here are the five most important features Glock is highlighting:

• The new Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), which uses a new barrel rifling for improved accuracy
• No more finger grooves, which enhances ergonomics
• An ambidextrous slide stop for enhanced control and flexibility
• Proprietary Glock nDLC black finish that is tougher and more durable
• A flared mag well that makes it quicker and easier to change magazines in high-pressure situations

The press release says the roots of the new Glock Gen5 pistols lie in a request by Federal Law Enforcement for a new service gun. Essentially, the new guns are a variation of the FBI’s “M” pistol.

“Our goal was to meet the demanding needs of law enforcement agencies while maintaining our standard of perfection,” Glock VP Josh Dorsey said. “Once the pistols we submitted proved themselves in testing and were adopted, consumers began asking for those pistols. The Gen5 pistols we are introducing today meet that demand.”
