Designed as a crossover between elite long-range shooters and extreme backcountry hunting, the Sig Cross quickly rose in popularity. The rifle comes after input from hunters, military snipers, and elite long-range shooters to deliver the ultimate in long-range precision. Now, with the addition of Helix 6 barrels, the Sig Cross moves to the next level of accuracy and rigidity.
Helix 6 Sig Cross Barrels
Building out from 416R Stainless steel cores, the barrels feature Helix 6’s proprietary carbon wrap process. As a result, the barrels provide match-grade accuracy by dampening barrel harmonics. Likewise, button rifling and hand lapping the barrels also help improve accuracy and minimize fouling.
The high carbon/low resin ratio of the barrels not only lightens the barrel weight by 50% but increases thermal dissipation. This helps cool the barrel faster than standard barrels, getting you back into the action quicker.
The available .308 Win barrel features a 1:10 twist for optimum long-range performance and weighs 1 pound 15 ounces. However, both the 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor feature a 1:8 twist and weigh 2 pounds 5 ounces and 2 pounds 2 ounces, respectively.
Each barrel is fit specifically to the Sig Cross and is easy to install, according to the company. All that is required for installation are the following tools: Barrel Vice, 3/16 Punch, AR Armorers tool, 1 1/16 – 12 point Box End Wrench, and Headspace gauge. However, if you are not experienced in replacing a barrel, it is recommended that you seek the services of a gunsmith to ensure the headspace of the barrel.
Editor’s Note
After speaking with the company, we learned that only the .308 Win is currently available for the Sig Cross. However, the 6mm Creedmoor will be available in a couple of weeks, and the 6.5 Creedmoor will be available later. Likewise, the .277 Fury will be available once Sig releases that model of Cross rifle.
