Magpul to Get $8.3 Million Grant for Cheyenne, Wyo. Move

Firearms accessories manufacturer Magpul is receiving a $8.3 million grant to move its manufacturing and warehouse operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming.

According to the Associated Press, the grant was originally supposed to be $13 million, but the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board voted 4-1 to lower it to $8.3 million after a change in plans for housing Magpul’s operations in Cheyenne.

The Erie, Colorado-based manufacturer made the decision to move production, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne, and its headquarters to Texas, due to strict gun laws enacted in Colorado last year.

“Moving operations to states that support our culture of individual liberties and personal responsibility is important,” Richard Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive Officer for Magpul Industries, said in a press release announcing the move. “This relocation will also improve business operations and logistics as we utilize the strengths of Texas and Wyoming in our expansion.”

As the AP reports, Magpul is planning on having some of its operations up and running in Cheyenne this coming November, which will create around 90 new jobs. They are closing their Colorado facility next spring.

“Magpul made the decision to relocate in March 2013 and has proceeded on an aggressive but deliberate path” Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul Industries, said in a statement. “These dual moves will be carried out in a manner that ensures our operations and supply chain will not be interrupted and our loyal customers will not be affected.”
