When creating the brand new SHV (Shooter, Hunter, Varminter) Riflescope, Nightforce Optics had one thing in mind: affordability.

Nightforce wanted to create a scope that was inexpensive for shooters — not to be confused with “cheap.” As Nightforce says with the SHV, “All we cut were costs. Not corners.”

New for 2014, the Nightforce SHV is a  a second-focal-plane scope with two reticles, MOAR and IH.

The Nightforce SHV features a 30mm main tube. The adjustments are cap-style adjustments, that are also finger adjustable in the field and are set up in quarter-minute clicks.

The parallax adjustment knobs on the Nightforce SHV are the same as most Nightforce products, but they also have a field adjustable illumination control. The control has 11 different setting with intermittent offs in between each setting.

Nightforce is using a European fast-focus eyepiece that allows for multiple users to quickly adjust the eye focus. The SHV has an independent power zoom ring so the entire eyepiece not rotate if it’s being ruing with flip covers.

The SHV is available either illuminated or non-illuminated.

Nightforce’s SHV Riflescope is within the reach of a wider range of hunters and shooters who don’t need the “overbuilt” characteristics of their NXS series, most of which were originally created to withstand actual combat conditions.

In “limiting some options, offering simpler controls, and using a less complex manufacturing process,” Nightforce says it created a perfect scope without reducing the quality of its components.

The SHV starts at $995 for the non-illuminated version.
