.22 Pistol Shooting

The Robesonian reports that the unidentified woman arrived home in St. Pauls at around 6:40 p.m. when she heard a strange noise coming from the storage building next to her house. The woman walked over to the building, opened the door and found a man later identified as 39-year-old James Dority standing in the corner.

A news release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office states that the woman said Dority aggressively “lunged” at her when she opened the door, prompting her to pull a .22 pistol and shoot Dority five times.

Robeson County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene; Dority was taken to a hospital shortly thereafter. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening. It doesn’t appear that the woman suffered any injuries during the incident.

Sheriff’s Office Maj. Anthony Thompson wouldn’t say if the woman or Dority would face charges for the incident.

“It is in the early stages of the investigation,” Thompson said.

Criminal Background

Even so, it appears Dority has an extensive criminal background. Last year, he was hit with two charges of felony possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The tools included two crowbars. Dority was also found with two crack pipes, a knife, a razor blade, and a straw.

In another case from the same day, Dority was also charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle—after stealing a F-150 pickup truck—misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession nearly 1.5 ounces of marijuana, The Robesonian said.
