We’ve been seeing more and more gun safes that put a premium on both fashion and function. The latest company to get in on this trend is Odon and its flagship illumiSAFE, which enables users to stay connected and in control of their valuables via their smartphones. Borne out of a desire to get away from what the company calls “boxy, bulky, bland-looking safes from long ago,” the illumiSAFE is essentially a durable safe compartment hidden discreetly and securely inside the body of an elegant table lamp, that is, until the user triggers the unlock sequence via the smartphone app or RFID key, which causes the safe to propel vertically and reveal its contents.
That’s not all your smartphone can do when it comes to the illumiSAFE. When somebody tampers with the safe, you’ll get a notification on your smartphone. Humidity and temperature status is also provided. If you forget to close it, well, Odon has a solution for that, too. There’s a proximity detection system that closes it automatically for you. You can also share access with other smartphone users. Also, just as your phone can control the opening and closing of the safe, it can also turn the lamp itself on and off. Pretty cool, right?
Capable of storing up to two 10-inch-long handguns, the illumiSAFE features a 12 gauge carbon steel outer casing available in eight different colors, including black, red, blue, fools penny, white, gold, bronze and silver. The lamp body comes in five wood veneer colors: maple, ebony, walnut, oak and cherry. The inner compartment is fully customizable where you can mix and match any number of the following options: up to six small drawers, necklace hangars, firearm dropdown and an extra RFID/NFC key card or bracelet.
