On January 24, 2026, Alex Pretti was shot and killed by Federal Agents during a protest in Minnesota. Videos of the killing have been widely circulated on news and social media. By all accounts, he was exercising his 2nd Amendment Right as a lawful gun owner to lawfully carry his handgun. By all accounts he was doing so while lawfully exercising his 1st Amendment Right to peaceably assemble. The lawful exercise of our enumerated rights, any of them, should not place one at risk of death.
Bleecker Street Publications looks forward to a robust and transparent investigation into the circumstances that led to the killing of Mr. Pretti. We reject the suggestion that Mr. Pretti’s death was justified by his decision to carry his firearm. We reject the implication that the decision to carry a firearm is evidence of intent to harm. We reject the notion that carrying a firearm at a protest is evidence of intent to harm.
Instead, we reiterate our mission statement and commitment to fostering a community within which all gun owners of varying experience levels, backgrounds, and beliefs can find informative and engaging content. We believe that as Americans, gun owners in particular, more unites us than divides us.
