In Wilmington, North Carolina women can help themselves feel more secure with the assistance of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stated, for the first time, the agency is teaming up with the Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.), to offer self-defense classes to women at the Cape Fear Community College north campus.
Instructors said women learn how to fend off an attacker while becoming more confident. They add that the class becomes more important every year.
“Yearly, statistics do go up with rape and not just rape but with crime in general. So, this doesn’t just teach women to defend themselves against rape but it’s also to defend themselves against a robber or a purse snatcher,” said Dep. Gina Turner.
