We had the privilege of testing the all-new Hornady 300 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) for the first time in early October at the 2018 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous.

Hornady 300 PRC Range Test

Hornady claims its performance surpasses that of the .300 Winchester Magnum and .308 Norma Magnum.

Does that claim have any foundation? Well, after the first day at the Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous, we went out into the field to repaint targets. Upon inspection, two steel posts — at 450 yards and 600 yards — had been snapped in half. The culprit? The Hornady 300 PRC.

“Everybody thinks we need another .30 caliber long-range cartridge like another hole in the head,” Hornady Marketing Director Neil Davies said. “We’ve been working on this for 10 years. What the 300 PRC has to offer is a lot like the 6.5 Creedmoor, (which is) everywhere and it shoots well in a lot of rifles.”
