Anyone familiar with Spyderco most likely recognizes the Endura 4. However, the model just got a utility-enhancing facelift with state-of-the-art steel and corresponding signature blue scales. As a result, the updated Endura 4 Wharncliffe from Spyderco carries easy and works hard. Whether for utility, defensive use, or both, the Endura 4 has you covered.
The Spyderco Endura 4 Wharncliffe
Expanding on the Endura 4 lineup, the new Wharncliffe moves into premium steel for enhanced longevity. The 3.78-inch blade is now constructed of durable K390 MICROCLEAN steel, which has high wear resistance, excellent toughness, and very high compressive strength.
According to Spydercoâs website, âSpecially developed to provide the extreme wear resistance and strength needed in the most demanding industrial applications, K390 is a state-of-the-art tool steel.â
Although the Endura 4 was already available in a Wharncliffe model, this is the first to be offered in this steel. The full-flat-grind provides a low-friction edge geometry, while the Wharncliffe blade profile produces excellent force at the tip. As a result, the Endura 4 Wharncliffe provides sheer cutting power.
The recognizable Trademark Round Hole provides single-handed operation, bringing the blade to bear from its FRN (fiberglass-reinforced-nylon) handle. When opened, the blade remains in lockup, at its full 8.76-inch length, via a high-strength back lock mechanism.
The Endura 4 Wharncliffeâs FRN handle scales feature the signature blue color of Spydercoâs elite K390 family. Skeletonized stainless steel liners also help to provide a sturdy base for the Endura 4.
With an injection molded construction, the scales include a non-slip, bi-directional texture pattern, promoting a solid purchase, even when wet. Additionally, the lightweight FRN material keeps the Endura 4 to a carry-friendly, lightweight 3.4-ounces.
Although it comes configured for right-hand tip-up carry, a four-position pocket clip offers your choice of right- or left-hand tip-up or tip-down carry.
Editorâs Note:
If you intend to EDC the Endura 4 Wharncliffe for defensive purposes, Spyderco has a trainer version available. The trainer features the same FRN scales and pocket clip configuration, so you can train how you carry. However, the scales on the trainer are red, so you donât confuse the two and inadvertently train with a live blade. The trainer is a little expensive, at $136.50, but the training itself is invaluable.
