This time of year always brings about some pretty cool releases. Last year we had things like the Charles Daly Honcho triple-barrel shotgun and the 33+1 KelTec CP33. This year, we have the TacSol Owyhee — a bolt-action takedown rifle in .22 LR.
TacSol Owyhee Rifle Details
First off, it’s pronounced “oh-WYE-hee,” just in case there was any confusion there. And wow, this is a cool one. The first things that come to mind with the Owyhee are backpacking, hunting, and plinking.
Tactical Solutions has quite the unique design on its hands with its new .22 bolt-action takedown rifle. As far as features go, the Owyhee comes standard with a 10-round, flush-fitting rotary magazine. There’s an extended mag release for easy removal. The rifle also has a threaded barrel for adding suppressors, making it absurdly quiet (see video above).
Then there’s the Magpul X-22 Backpacker Stock, which is TacSol-customized. The design of the stock attaches the barrel assembly to the stock body “for compact storage and packability,” according to TacSol. The takedown and re-assembly process doesn’t take much. It only requires the simple push of a button and twist mechanism.
If the compact, takedown nature of the rifle wasn’t enough, it only weight 3.9 pounds, so carrying it in a backpack is as easy as, um … carrying it in a backpack. Sorry, no clever simile there for you. Part of that light weight comes from the aluminum barrel, which has a chromoly steel bore and 11-degree target crown. TacSol also drilled and tapped the barrel for addition of a scope rail. Other features include a Pinpoint Open Sight System with fiber optic front and rear adjustable sights and a behind-the-trigger safety.
Lastly is MSRP, which comes in at $1,065. And that is that — we’ll try and get one for testing ASAP. For more information, please visit TacticalSol.com.
