Not to be outdone by other gun makers offering custom guns this 4th of July, Turnbull is rolling out a limited edition recreation of the legendary Commercial 1911 Government pistol.
“The 1911 is simply the best known and still most beloved pistol design in firearm history and the Commercial is the design that people most identify with it,” Turnbull founder and CEO Doug Turnbull said in a statement. “It just made sense to honor this purely American firearm design by releasing it on Independence Day.”

Boasting the same early style commercial finish applied to them when they were first made in 1912, these new Turnbull Commercial 1911 Government models feature a high polish charcoal blued slide and frame; nitre blued one piece steel trigger, slide stop hammer and grip screws; and two 2-tone magazines with the then-standard lanyard loop.
Meanwhile, the gun sports a five-inch barrel and WWI-style ejection port. The sight is also WWI style with a semi-circle notch. Additionally, the grips have a hand checkered double diamond pattern in American Black Walnut. The safety lock is also in the early style, with a knurled undercut thumbpiece.
Serial numbers and other stampings are consistent with the style used on the originals on frame’s left front, the press release says. Each model has Turnbull’s “Turning Bull” market on the left rear of the slide. Each Turnbull Commercial 1911 pistol comes with a Turnbull branded leather case.

“The history of the 1911 is a fascinating voyage through the growth and development of the American firearms industry,” Turnbull said. “The Commercial 1911 is the gun most enthusiasts picture when you talk about the original 1911.”
As we said up top, the Commercial 1911 will be available starting on the 4th of July. Production is limited to serial numbers C001-C020. Customers will have the option of selecting any of the remaining numbers when they place an order. The price tag for this limited edition offering is a cool $4,995.
