Vulture Equipment Works, Chicago-based manufacturer of high-end adventure and imaging equipment, is announcing the official launch of its new collection of specialty knives, including the Production Grade Cholera Mk1 and Talon Mk1 fixed blade knives.
According to the press release, the Cholera Mk1’s blade design is intended as an “all mountain” knife. It is a modified version of a Gyuto knife, a Japanese word which translates to “meat sword.” The Talon Mk1, meanwhile, is designed for tactical use and features a modified spear-tip design, and a saber-grind blade with a tapered handle profile.
Both knives are production made out of heat treated 1095 high carbon alloy steel and feature a blade thickness of 3/16″, a blade length of 5.5″, an overall length of 10″, dark linen micarta handles, and an acid wash finish. In addition, both knives come with a Kydex sheath with an adjustable belt attachment. As the press release notes, the Cholera Mk1 is also available in an Investment Grade, which features the same basic profile as the Production Grade, but it is one-inch longer overall and intricately handmade out of 01 tool steel.
The Production Grade Cholera Mk1 and Talon Mk1 are available at an MSRP of $189.99. The Investment Grade Cholera Mk1 retails for $599.99.
“Design inspiration came from several things,” says Vulture Equpment Works founder and lead designer William Egbert Jr., “but mostly my need and desire for a blade that was cut to do real-world work; each blade conforms to the basic anatomy and physiology principles of the human hand. The knives are made to stand the test of time and use, which is why we only use the highest grade military materials available.”
