It’s a cliché, but it’s a cliché for a reason: there’s nothing that strikes fear into the heart of a criminal like the sound of a shotgun being racked. Bearing that in mind, Winchester is rolling out two new SXP pump action scatterguns for defensive situations: the SXP Shadow Defender and SXP Shadow Marine Defender.

Available in 12 and 20 gauge versions with a 3-inch chamber and an 18-inch barrel, the Winchester SXP Shadow Defender and Shadow Marine Defender each boast synthetic pistol grip stocks with textured grip surfaces. Both are also equipped with two length of pull spacers, giving the owner the ability to adjust the shotgun for an ideal fit. Also included are two interchangeable comb pieces that enable the end user to dial in eye-to-optic alignment. Meanwhile, a ribbed tactical forearm provides a firm grip, and alloy receivers are drilled and tapped for bases and rings.
The SXP Shadow Defender sports a matte black finish, while the SXP Shadow Marine Defender features a matte hard chrome plating on the barrel, magazine tube and slide arms for protection against wear and the elements. The 12 gauge version of the SXP Shadow Defender has a MSRP of $449.99, while the 20 gauge model has a $469.99 price tag. The SXP Shadow Marine Defender 12 gauge is available at a suggested retail price of $499.99, and the 20 gauge version will run you $519.99.
