Springfield Releases New Ronin Operator 1911 With 4.25-inch Barrel

Springfield Armory first announced its Ronin 1911 back in January. At that time, Springfield only announced the 5-inch barrel variant. Now comes a new Springfield Ronin variant with just a 4.25 inch barrel.

Springfield Ronin 4.25 Details

It’s been a big 12 months for Springfield Armory. First, the Springfield Hellcat took the concealed carry community by storm. Then came the Springfield PDW and Springfield EVAC, followed by the initial 5-inch Ronin. Then there was the Springfield XD-M Elite pistol with its 22+1 capacity. Now, we have the 4.25-inch barrel Springfield Ronin.

The Ronin is a true 1911. It’s a retro-style 1911 built to provide a lifetime of rugged service and look good while doing it. Offered in both 9mm and .45 ACP, the new 4.25-inch barreled model features a forged stainless steel, match-grade barrel. The only differences in the two calibers are weight and capacity. The 9mm version weighs 31 ounces empty and has a 9+1 capacity. Meanwhile, the .45 ACP model weighs 29.5 ounces empty and has an 8+1 capacity. Otherwise, you’re getting the same features in both. Springfield loaded the Ronin with features that savvy 1911 shooters look for at a price that will leave Springfield’s competitors shaking their heads. Which brings us to the MSRP: $849.

Our Evaluation

Armory 1911, 4.25-inch Barrel, right

We had gun writer Mike Detty evaluate the 5-inch model for the recent June/July issue of Ballistic Magazine. He said, “When I started this project, I wondered what corners Springfield cut to get the Ronin down to an MSRP of just $849. But after spending significant time with the gun, I have to admit that I haven’t found a single cut corner—in fact, not even a rounded corner! Its major components are forged, and the parts are expertly fitted. It possesses a trigger pull that would normally only be found on high-dollar custom guns, and it’s capable of extraordinary accuracy. On top of all that, it is a handsome, uncluttered gun that is sure to make any true 1911 aficionado sit up and take notice.”
