One would think breaking a record from the Guinness World Book of Records isn’t easy. The CZ Shooting Team recently proved that’s not always the case.

On Oct. 12, 2019, the team attempted to break the world record for most sporting clay targets shot in a 12-hour period by a five-person team. The previous record stood at 4,602. Notice we said “previous” and used the past tense with “stood.” It’s obviously no longer the record. The CZ Shooting Team obliterated the record with a total of 14,176 clays.
The CZ Shooting Team and the New Record
The successful record attempt took place at the Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, Kan. So in case you’re racking your brain around that new record, it’s not a misprint. CZ’s shooters hit 14,176 clays in just 12 hours, breaking the old record by 9,574 clays.
- Dave Miller, CZ-USA‘s shotgun manager, and pro-shooter
- Levi Henrichs, of Sibley, Iowa
- Makayla Scott, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
- Jessica Strasser, Waterford, Wis.
- Weston Zolck, Herman, Neb.
CZ selected each team member based on an essay they submitted. Each applicant also participated in an A.I.M. or SCTP competitive shotgun shooting qualifier event.
“This new world record took a great deal of practice, commitment and concentration,” Miller said. “And these young shooters never faltered! I’m very proud of these young people and their stellar work ethic. This new world record could not have been set without their dedication to excellence.”
“We had an enthusiastic crowd on hand, and they really cheered us on,” Miller added. “Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and to our sponsors. You made a huge difference!”
