Editor’s Take:

We’ve seen some previous special models from S&W honoring the move to Tennessee already. And while special logos and such are cool for collecting, we can honestly say these have all been excellent shooters as well. We recently sent rounds downrange with the Volunteer XV Pro and Volunteer X 308 rifles at Athlon Outdoor Rendezvous. And they both impressed in both function and form–feature-rich carbines displaying accurate fire.

Then Frank Melloni the Volunteer XV Pro DMR in 6mm ARC. “Overall, I found it to be a comfortable rifle to shoot that will equally serve the needs of the home defender, hunter, or long-range precision competitor,” Melloni wrote.

We expect nothing less with the new Volunteer Special Makeup pistols. Yes, they come with some unique styling for collectors and certainly anyone who hails from Tennessee. But they should prove capable defenders as well, and we can think of no higher praise.
