Concealable revolvers remain popular, especially among long-time revolver users. They are easy to conceal, the epitome of simplicity, and they provide a degree of reliability many small semi-automatics cannot match. Ruger’s LCR has been one of the most popular, providing incredibly light weight, solid operation and one of the best triggers available on a small revolver. However, all models featured concealed hammers. That has now changed with the new Ruger LCRx. Maintaining all of the excellent features and quality of the basic LCR, it added an exposed hammer to the design, allowing for single-action (SA) use.

Having carried small revolvers off and on for decades, it was nice to get my hands on this LCRx. While covered hammers are nice for concealed carry, SA is handy when any degree of precision is required. Small revolvers, even good ones, have pretty stout trigger pulls. Being able to cock it for better accuracy can be handy.

Carrying the LCRx was pleasant, as it is incredibly light. Even loaded it is easy to forget it is there. Fitting nicely in a bag, in an ankle holster or in a hip holster, it is very comfy to carry. For many who advocate appendix carry, revolvers are excellent, and the LCRx would fit that niche nicely. Recoil was what you would expect in a small revolver, although the Hogue grips help quite a bit. Accuracy was also as expected, with SA improving it some.
