Springfield Armory Donates SA-16A2 Rifles to College Rifle Class

Springfield Armory recently donated a selection of rifles to aid Michigan’s Hillsdale College in support of its new Modern American Riflery Class. The Springfield SA-16A2 rifles donated comprise a faithful semi-automatic recreation of the M-16A2 service rifle.

The SA-16A2 features several upgrades over the original, increasing performance and accuracy. It gives shooters an opportunity to own a piece of history while enjoying modern performance enhancements.

Hillsdale College’s Modern American Riflery Class teaches students basic rifle marksmanship skills. Lessons include safe handling, proper nomenclature and operation. The course covers cleaning and maintenance, external ballistics and zeroing as well. Finally, students learn marksmanship from prone, kneeling and standing positions. The course puts the students on the firing line, shooting in competition as individuals and a team setting. The classes take place at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center.

“It has been exciting to see the growing interest among the young men and women here at the College in the exercise of their Second Amendment rights,” said Adam Burlew, operations manager at Hillsdale’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center. “Because of Springfield Armory’s support, these students will become proficient in safely and effectively operating and maintaining a firearm using some of the best rifles out there. We are very grateful for all that Springfield Armory has done for us.”

Springfield Armory currently funds remitted scholarships for members of the Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team. The company also supplies the team’s firearms, including their Echelon and Prodigy pistols, and provides access to training with world shooting champion Rob Leatham.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with Hillsdale College for this new training course,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “The SA-16A2’s classic configuration and impressive performance make it an ideal fit for this class.”
