Police have released security camera and body camera footage of Thursday’s Cincinnati bank shooting.

The shooting left three dead and two injured after a gunman opened fire at an office building near Cincinnati’s Fountain Square. Police responded to the scene and engaged the suspect, shooting and killing him.

How the Cincinnati Bank Shooting Played Out

Cincinnati Police received numerous phone calls around 9:11 a.m. Thursday about a gunman at the Fifth Third Bank.

The gunman, identified as 29-year-old Omar Perez, entered multiple buildings in the area before entering the bank, according to Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac.

Perez shot five victims at the bank, three of which succumbed to their injuries, Issac said. A total of four police officers responded to the scene and engaged Perez.

“As officers tactially approached the building, multiple gunshots rang out, which enabled the officers to pinpoint the shooter’s location,” Isaac told WHIO 7. “Four of the responding officers were able to engage the gunman, shooting him through the plate glass window, causing him to fall to the floor.”

In total, the officers fired 11 rounds, according to multiple reports; eight from their 9mm sidearms, two rounds from a shotgun and one round from a rifle.

The police chief told reporters that it took approximately 4 minutes and 28 seconds from the first shot fired by Perez until he was killed. He added that the officer’s response time was roughly 3-and-a-half minutes.

Isaac said Perez had a single 9mm semi-auto pistol. He added that Perez had “multiple magazines and significant amount of ammunition,” which he estimated to be approximately 200 rounds.

The police chief also praised the efforts of the responding officers.

“Their bravery and heroic actions stopped this shooter before his rampage continued to do more harm,” Isaac said.
