Based on the “M” pistol used by the FBI, the new and Glock 17 and Glock 19 Gen5 pistols sport more than 20 design changes from the Gen4 versions, with the following five being the biggest: The Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), which utilizes a new barrel rifling to boost accuracy; the removal of finger grooves; an added ambidextrous slide stop for improved control and flexibility; black nDLC finish that is touted as being tougher and more durable; and the introduction of a flared mag well.

“The development of our Gen5 pistols was the result of the constant pursuit of perfection and a desire to meet the requests of the consumer market,” Glock VP Josh Dorsey said in a statement. “We have combined the standards of high-level performance and reliability with distinctive design enhancements to improve durability, accuracy, and performance. The benefits enhance the shooter experience at the range and in high-stress situations where fractions of a second matter.”
