VIDEO: Why Berger Bullets Factory Ammo Performs Like It’s Handloaded

There are a lot of claims in the firearms industry. Manufacturers constantly claim that “[insert product name here] does [insert product purpose here] like nothing else on the market,” or something like that. Most claims are kind of true, but not always. It’s rare we see one where we agree 100 percent. Then there’s Berger Bullets. It claims that it “produces the highest grade bullets and ammunition commercially available today.” Well, that’s one of those rare one we agree with 100 percent.

On the Range With Berger Bullets

So we had Berger Bullets on the range at the 2020 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. The ammunition is “true match grade” in the field. What does that mean, exactly? Berger starts off with a Lapua cartridge case, which is incredibly popular amongst reloaders. It also uses a Berger match bullet and a match-grade powder like VihtaVuori. Then Berger tests the ammo itself before putting it to market.

Overall, Berger has long-distance shooters in mind with its ammo. It’s practically handloaded ammo without having to handload it yourself. The general consensus from writers at the 2020 Rendezvous was the ammo was consistent. There weren’t any rogue hits or misses at long distance. Once a shooter got on target, they stayed on target. And we dealt with some particularly strong winds at the event, so that’s saying something.

In his review for Tactical-Life.com, writer Frank Melloni said, “I was able to put 90 percent of the 140-grain 6.5 Creedmoor loads onto the sub-2-MOA target at 1,000 yards and even touched the 1,500-yard target a few times. That same day I fired a number of different brands of ammunition through close to a dozen different rifles; this was the combo that I was able to hit at 1,500 yards with any sort of consistency.”
