In March of last year, Mossberg added two new optic-ready models to its 590S pump-action series of shotguns (below). The additions bolstered the line, offering a total of six options to choose from. Now, Mossberg is at it again with the addition of a compact optic-ready model and a Magpul-Holosun Micro Dot combo.
Mossberg Adds Two New Models to the 590S Pump-Action Series
The first of the two models is the 590S Compact Optic-Ready. Featuring an 18.5-inch barrel, the latest model falls in line with one of the original options. However, where the Compact differs in its stock.
Where the original model has a 13.87-inch fixed length of pull, the Compact features an adjustable length of pull. Likewise, the length of pull on the Compact is shorter than the original with adjustments ranging from 12 – 13 inches. This puts the overall length at 37.75 inches max, compared to the 39.5 inches of the original. Thus making it ideal for smaller framed shooters.
Next is the Magpul-Holosun Micro Dot Combo, which comes already decked out. The shotgun features the Magpul SGA Adjustable Stock, providing a 12.25 – 14.25-inch adjustable length of pull. Likewise, it includes the Magpul MOE forend with three M-LOK slots, an extended length, and front/rear handstops. As a result, shooters experience improved weapon manipulation.
In addition, the shotgun comes with the Holosun HS407K red dot optic already mounted. The HS407K features a 6 MOA red dot with ten daylight and two night vision brightness settings. In addition, the optic boasts a 50,000-hour battery life and utilizes Shake Awake to preserve battery life.
Chambered in 12-gauge, the 590S series cycles 1.75-, 2.75-, and 3-inch shells interchangeably without requiring a mini shell adaptor. For more details about the 590S series, please see below.

Mossberg Optic-Ready 590S Pump-Action Series Shotguns
New to the 590S Pump-Action Series lineup are two optic-ready options. Available in 18.5-inch or 20-inch, the shotguns are ready to accept the direct mount of red dot sights out of the box. Utilizing the Shield RMSc footprint, the optics-ready options come with a cover plate for when a sight is not mounted.
The 18.5-inch model features a cylinder bore barrel with a front bead sight and corncob forend. Similarly, the 20-inch model features an AccuChoke-compatible barrel (Cylinder choke tube included), front bead sight, and M-LOK compatible forend. Each model is available with an MSRP of $704.00.
Out of the 590S lineup, these are the only two with optic-ready capabilities. So, the Shockwave models are not included in the current optic-ready availability. Whether that will change down the road remains to be seen.

Available in four different models, the 590S series offers two full-length stocks or two compact Shockwave-gripped models. Comparatively, the Compact models are available with your choice of 14.375-inch or 18.5-inch barrel. Both Compact models feature bead sights.
