Ruger One-Shot Sled: Single-Load Device for Hunting, Load Development

Now here’s a cool piece of gear from the genius minds over at Ruger. The Ruger One-Shot Sled turns the Ruger American bolt-action rifle into a single-shot platform. The device slows down shooters for training or bench work, while offering hunting options in restrictive states as well.

Ruger One-Shot Sled

The One-Shot Sled replaces the standard Ruger American magazine. It then provides smooth, single-round feeding. The process slows down shooters considerably, making it a useful training aid for developing new shooters. The One-Shot Sled delivers only one well-fed round at a time. For those testing loads or doing accuracy work from the bench, the sled provides a welcome option for true bench shooting. But there’s a hunting component here as well. In states like Illinois, where restrictions allow only single-shot rifles, the One-Shot Sled puts the Ruger American rifle back in the game.

The Ruger One-Shot Sled fits Ruger American short-action rifles. Calibers include .350 Legend, .450 Bushmaster, 300 BLK, .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor and more. The sled comes with a magazine well to adapt rifles configured form the factory to accept AR-, AI- or Mini Thirty-pattern magazines. When inserted into the rifle, the sled fits flush with the stock, according to Ruger. It prevents interference when carrying slung or shooting from a bag or pack.

The One-Shot Sled retails for $24.95. For even more info, please visit ruger.com.

Editor’s Note:

This one is kind of specific to be sure, but there’s some real coolness going on. If you’ve ever spent of ton of time on the bench, then this product should seem like a no-brainer. Easily converting a bolt-action rifle into a single-shot system makes for an easy benchrest day. That “ease” often translates into better performance. When you’re not constantly getting out of position to fumble with rounds and keep the mag loaded, you can concentrate on just pure shooting.

Look, it’s just a little thing, but we dig it. Secondly, don’t discount the value in going single-shot to get around ridiculous hunting regulations. Much like shotgun-only locales and straight-walled cartridge rules, single-shot restrictions limit hunters. Any product that increases easy access into the field, we’re 100-percent onboard. Maybe Ruger will start making this product for other platforms in the near future.
