Elite Iron Thud Lite L — Experience Breeds Excellence In Suppression

If I challenged you to name three to five suppressor companies right now, I could likely tell you some of the names you’d mention. If I further challenged you to give me five to ten company names you might struggle but could likely do so with some help from the interwebs. Regardless of the number that I challenge you to come up with, it’s likely that Elite Iron would not roll off of you tongue, even if the limit were 15 suppressors and that’s shame. But I want to help change this, for your own benefit.

Who Is Elite Iron?

Elite Iron has been making world class, hard use suppressors for years. In fact, it’s like some 25 years now. I dare you to go to their website and look it over. You’ll see a plethora of models that will suit nearly any taste or task. I still remember their print advertisements from over a decade ago. Elite Iron, ever present with a straight forward product. Effective. Reliable. That time in the market means experience and that experience has transformed their latest precision rifle suppressor into one of performance greatness. You’d be hard pressed to find a suppressor that performs as well as, let alone better than the Elite Iron Thud Lite L. That is my professional opinion and one I stand beside.

So how did Elite Iron, a small company you’ve likely never heard of, get to this point? Well, Dale Poling, the owner of Elite Iron has some decades of precision shooting under his belt. He has accrued many hours of ELR shooting on big caliber rifles. Big caliber rifles can beat you up pretty good especially under suppression. So he designed his latest suppressors around that.

Taming The Recoil

Before brakes on suppressors was really a thing, Dale released his suppressor called The Asset. It’s available in .30 cal and .375 calibers. I got my hands on one back in 2021 and it changed the precision suppression game by delivering recoil mannerisms that were rare with suppressors if existent at all thanks to the modular/removable  muzzle brake. The same magic that was in the Asset is now in the Thud Lite L with more purpose and focus.

The Asset was a modular suppressor with not only a brake but and additional baffle section that could be installed if desired. While this was a good option, the overall diameter of the suppressor was still pretty thin. The Thud line has done away with the additional baffle section and increased in diameter from 1.625 inches to 1.75 inches creating more and better overall volume. In suppression, volume is king. It’s physics.

Differences In Elite Iron Thud Lite L

Internally the Thud L is also designed differently from the Asset, improving noise reduction, flow of gasses and also improving overall handling characteristics.

The Thud Lite L is classified as a magnum caliber suppressor able to handle .30 caliber up to 300 WM. It’s made from grade 5 Titanium and features what is a called a skinless, laser welded design. Basically there is no outer tube. The baffles are all laser welded together with no visible lines. It’s clean look it also helps keep weight down and it’s strong to boot. They Thud L gets a Cerakote finish, several to choose from. I opted for the Burt bronze and it is simply gorgeous. It has a clean, classy look and feel.

On The End

The Thud Lite L comes with two end caps. A traditional end cap so that you can extract every bit of noise reduction it has to offer, and the Elite Iron Suppressor Comp Brake . Elite Iron has put a good deal of effort into creating this self timed brake and its amazing the difference it makes on muzzle rise.

Yes, it is louder than the standard end cap by roughly 7 decibels but in my opinion the return you receive in rifle controllability is worth it. You’ll have to determine how you want to use the different end caps. If you’re only shooting a few rounds, you may want maximum quite. If you plan to shoot a lot or some sort of match the brake is the way to go. When you opt for the standard end cap, you’ll get sound suppression in the -36dB neighborhood at the shooter’s ear.  A wrench is provided for switching of end caps.

Other niceties besides the wrench include a high temp felt pouch to keep it from getting scratched up.

A direct thread attachment is used for the Thub. While it is not HUB compatible it is removable. Several thread sizes are available, including, 1/2-28, 5/8-24, 3/4-24, 3/4-20, and M18x10.

Hushing On The Range

I placed the Thud Lite L  on a Falkor Defense 7even LE rifle. It technically doesn’t exist but it is a prototype of sorts that I I built out with their assistance and the assistance of others. It features a 20-inch Proof Research barrel and is finished in FDE. I knew the burnt bronze of the Thud would be a stunner. It was.

I shot the rifle bare muzzle for five rounds then attached the suppressor to note POI shift and dispersion. I also noted velocity changes utilizing a Athlon Optics Range Master chronograph. Thud Lite L increased average velocity by 19 fps and point of impact shifted up by two inches while windage was not affected.

I shot the The Thud Lite L at distance as well. It delivers excellent recoil mannerisms, even on this .308 shooting full power factory loads. If you do your part the reticle doesn’t stray far from point of aim and will bounce right back, again if you do your part. Overall this is just one tough suppressor to beat and I’m always amazed by it after shooting other suppressors. And while I focus intently on recoil management the sound matches its other performance with a low and quick “thud” sound. Just like its name implies.

Wrapping It Up

The Thud L is the top-tier of rifle suppressor performance. Sound and recoil are second to none. This is a high performance suppressor you can count on and one that should provide a lifetime of service. Now that suppressors are more easily attained, this is the type of suppressor smart buyers who demand performance should look to. Their experience is unmatched.
