Earlier this year, we reported the release of the Rock Island Armory RIA 5.0 (below). The pistol boasted a patented RVS recoil system and a meticulously engineered trigger. As a result, the 5.0 delivered a flatter shooting experience, perfect for competition or home defense. And now, Rock Island Armory has enhanced the shooter with next-level upgrades, with the RIA 5.0E.
The Rock Island Armory RIA 5.0E
Building on the original 5.0, the 5.0E still operates on an aluminum frame and glass-filled polymer grip. However, the 5.0E now features an Amor Series finish, providing a diamond-like coating (DLC) and enhanced aesthetics. Likewise, the grip maintains the aggressive stippling for enhanced retention and control.
Riding atop the frame is the reengineered slide with aggressive serrations for enhanced manipulation. In addition, the Dawson Precision fiber optic dovetail front sight is replaced by a Night Fision green fiber optic serrated dovetail front sight. Likewise, the LPA adjustable dovetail rear sight is replaced by a Night Fision, blank serrated dovetail rear sight.
However, one of the bigger enhancements comes in the form of an optic cut, with plates. As a result, users can install the red dot sight of their choice, further enhancing accuracy. But it is worth noting that the iron sights are standard height. So, you may need to install after-market suppressor height sights in order to co-witness.
Delivering the payload is the updated 9mm match-grade barrel with improved materials and low bore axis. Correspondingly, lightening cuts in the slide not only show off the new match-grade barrel but help decrease the overall weight. As with the original, the meticulously engineered trigger delivers a smooth pull and presents no slacking.
“RIA5.0E is a game-changer, packing revolutionary features and stellar performance,” said Tuason. “The RIA5.0E is set to redefine industry standards and empower our customers like never before because it’s going to blow them away.”
Availability
The RIA 5.0E will be available in January 2023 at SHOT Show with an MSRP of $1,988.88. For more info, please visit Armscor.com.
On March 2, 2023, Personal Defense World reported:
RIA (Rock Island Armory) hit SHOT Show with its new 5.0 sporting pistol, promising revolutionary performance. This is due specifically to the meticulously engineered trigger system and soft shooting RVS recoil system. Not to mention a deeper bore axis for a flatter shooting experience.
The RIA 5.0
Featuring an aluminum frame, the RIA 5.0 includes a polymer grip for greater flexibility with the control and durability of a full-length aluminum receiver. This helps to enhance ergonomics and recoil control. Likewise, the RVS (Ram Valve System) recoil system is engineered to maximize barrel mass and linear movement. For this reason, the RIA 5.0 provides faster follow-up shots and target acquisition.
Chambered in 9mm, the 4.91-inch rectangular outer barrel does not use a tilting barrel lock-up. In addition, a shrouded internal hammer ensures no snagging while drawing the pistol. According to the company, the 5.0 includes a meticulously engineered trigger system for a buttery-smooth pull. Likewise, the trigger presents no stacking, assisting in greater accuracy.
The RIA 5.0 is not ambidextrous and features controls for right-handed users only. In addition, the full-length dust cover includes a five-slot Picatinny rail for the addition of accessories.
Currently, it has a special release of serial numbers 1 through 100, which are equipped with a C-MORE RTS II red dot optic. Likewise, there are 100 more additional models with iron sights. Specifically, Dawson Precision fiber optic dovetail front sight and LAP adjustable dovetail rear sight.
“The RIA 5.0 is really an engineering marvel,” said Martin Tuason, President and CEO of parent company Armscor/Rock Island Armory. “It’s an extremely shootable sporting pistol with a meticulously engineered trigger system. Best of all, we’re proud to say it’s made entirely in the U.S.A.”

The RIA 5.0 is available now with an MSRP of $998.88. For more info, please visit Armscor.com.
