It’s back! First introduced in 2016, and always hard to get due to demand and competing priorities in manufacturing, the iconic Barrett REC7 DI Rifle returns to the marketplace. The news comes as a temporary production hold on the MK 22 contract provided a moment of daylight for Barrett to spin up the REC7 once more..
Barrett REC7 DI Rifle Returns
The REC7 bordered on unobtanium in Gundom even before it ceased production. Now it hits dealers shelves again in Summer 2024, brining back a very specific rifle carrying the Barrett name. Along the way, it owns an enviable reputation for accuracy and reliability, making us shooters want what we can’t have–until now.
The rifle features a mid-length direct impingement gas system, making it well-suited for suppressor use. The upper and lower receivers feature 7075-T6 aluminum construction. All aluminum components include a Type 3 hardocat anodizing.
The rifle platform features a hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel and Magpul furniture. An ALG QMS trigger and extended slimline Barrett handguard with M-LOK acessory mounting slots adds to the rifle’s appeal.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer the REC7 DI once again to our customers,” said Bryan James, President of Barrett. “This rifle embodies the legacy of quality and reliability that the Barrett name represents. We are confident that shooters will once again appreciate the exceptional performance and craftsmanship of the REC7 DI.”
Previous REC7 DI Reports
We tested the REC7 on the range back in 2016, running it through a full review. “The key component in a fighting rifle is reliability,” wrote Todd Burgreen. “No matter how accurate or powerful a rifle is, if it does not work 100 percent of the time, it is a liability. To this end, the REC7 DI ran flawlessly during testing. This carbine is intended for serious practitioners who plan on using it for patrolling, training or self-defense. Years of experience and dozens of training courses have given me strong opinions in terms of what constitutes an effective fighting rifle. A lightweight, fast-handling AR that offers plenty of firepower would be just the ticket, and the Barrett REC7 DI is a great choice to fill such a role.”
And now we’re glad it’s back. The Barrett REC7 DI Rifle comes chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. For more info, visit barrett.net.
