VIDEO: First Hunting Report With the Hornady 7mm PRC

Hornady announced the release of its latest addition to the Precision Rifle Cartridge family today. And we got exclusive video of one of the first hunting reports filed with the new Hornady 7mm PRC.

Hunting with the Hornady 7mm PRC

Field editor Sean Utley joined a crew for a Wyoming antelope hunt recently. And the results, seen on video, prove devastating. Utley took one shot from approximately 343 yards, and the new round proved impressive. One well-placed shot completely shut down the pronghorn–seemingly dead before the animal even hit the ground. Needless to say, recovery looked pretty darn easy.

Now the 7mm PRC–obviously–is aimed at much bigger, heavier critters. And the success of the field reports thus far center on a few key points. The 7mm PRC delivers tremendous energy on target. It drives heavy-for-caliber bullets with high ballistic coefficients, and those bullets flat out perform. Meanwhile, the cartridge design collaborated with manufacturers as well. So the rifle chambers don’t stretch or shrink to accommodate this cartridge. Instead, they built around it.

Hornady followed a similar blueprint with the launch of another little cartridge you may have heard of–the 6.5 Creedmoor. One of the more resounding success stories in recent history, the 6.5 CM completely revolutionized long-range shooting and hunting. Now the 7mm PRC promises to do it again, this time with an eye toward even greater terminal performance, on bigger game, and at even greater distances.

For anyone that chases elk or hunts at extended range, the 7mm PRC sure brings a lot to the table. Not convinced yet? Then click on over to read Jay Langston’s initial report. The rifleman got hands on with the new cartridge at the recent Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous. And also check out our background story announcing the release of the Hornady 7mm PRC.
