Few companies hold the clout and reputation like Trijicon. They have been at the forefront of real-world application optics for decades. Their glass has been in combat worldwide and sits on tens of thousands of law enforcement rifles. One of my favorite optics has been their MRO. It has served me well for years and has been a go-to on countless rifles. Today, Trijicon has made my beloved MRO even better. The newest addition to their extensive line-up is the new Trijicon MRO SD.

Now Optimized for Use With a Magnifier – The New Trijicon MRO SD
The Trijicon MRO (Miniature Rifle Optic) has redefined the red dot rifle optics standard. It delivers exceptional repeatability, rugged durability, and unmatched clarity with a wide field of view. Free from tunnel effects or visual restrictions, the MRO has become a top choice for both professionals and enthusiasts since its introduction in 2015 and now the new Trijicon MRO SD further builds on this legacy.
New for 2025, the MRO SD features improved optical performance with a re-engineered objective lens. This lens delivers a refined, crisp 2.0 MOA center dot optimized for seamless use with the optional MRO 3x Magnifier. It features truly ambidextrous operation and offers eight precision-tuned brightness settings. These settings include two night vision-compatible levels, five daylight settings, and an ultra-bright mode for high-glare environments or use with weapon lights. The MRO SD (Red) offers a 2.5-year battery life at setting three. The Green Dot version—arriving in Summer 2025—delivers 3 years of battery life at the same setting.
Multiple Versions Available
The New Trijicon MRO SD will be offered as a stand-alone unit, a Patrol variant with flip caps, an ARD, and a quick-detach mount. It will also be available in a combo with the MRO 3x Magnifier. A Coyote Brown Anodized version of the MRO SD will also be available at launch. All MRO SD units have the same footprint as the original MRO. They are compatible with MRO mounts and accessories.
Engineered for superior durability, the MRO SD features upgraded adjusters designed to maintain zero under direct impact and heavy recoil. The capless design, utilizing sub-flush adjusters, eliminates lost caps, reduces snag hazards, and prevents unintentional adjustments.
Built for rapid and precise target engagement, the MRO SD offers infinite eye relief. This ensures quick sight acquisition from any shooting position. Its larger objective lens and compact optical length virtually eliminate the “tunnel vision” effect, which is common in many red dot sights. The crisp 2.0 MOA dot is ideal for fast target acquisition, while the optional 3x flip-to-side Magnifier enhances clarity and precision at extended ranges, making The New Trijicon MRO SD an exceptional tool for shooters.

No Special Tools Needed
The New Trijicon MRO SD red and green dot optics join the MRO HD optics. They offer users the option of a single 2.0 MOA dot in the MRO SD or a 2.0 MOA dot surrounded by a 68 MOA segmented circle in the MRO HD. All Trijicon MRO models are designed for easy mounting and rapid zeroing. They feature half-minute adjustments with 70 MOA of total travel for adaptability across various platforms. No special tools are needed—windage and elevation adjustments can be made simply using a cartridge rim.
Trijicon’s engineers built and tested the MRO to withstand extreme conditions. It can operate in temperatures from -60°F to +160°F. It is fully waterproof to 100 feet, resistant to chemicals and corrosion, and enclosed in a forged 7075-T6 aluminum housing. The MRO is built to endure the demands of combat, competition, and hard use in any environment. All MRO optics are built in Trijicon’s factory in Wixom, Michigan, alongside some of the most battle-tested optics in the world, including the legendary ACOG and RMR.

The New Trijicon MRO SD – Tested
The New Trijicon MRO SD unit I received stood up to all the talking points provided by Trijicon. As always, the glass is crystal clear, and the large window makes target acquisition a quick task. The addition of a magnifier further expands the role that the MRO can play. The Magnifier is aligned perfectly with the MRO and eliminates the head wiggle usually accompanying the use of a magnifier. The side flip mount is firm enough to avoid play yet not ridiculously stiff. Moving from regular use to magnified is quick and easy. The Magnifier also has a small footprint while still offering great performance.
When it comes to optics, I do not settle. Trijicon demonstrates its commitment to real-world performance. In short, they make professional-level optics. If you are as serious as I am about your glass, I highly suggest you take a look at the New Trijicon MRO SD.
